Junior League of Charlotte January Home Meeting

The Junior League of Charlotte has spiced things up a bit for 2012. Instead of having the General Membership meeting in January, the League decided to have league members who owned a small business to host a home membership meeting. I decided to host it at my home and throw a Twinkle Party! Boy was it fun and a whirlwind! 25+ ladies showed up promptly at 6PM-:) I had such a blast that I forgot to take many photos but managed to take a few at the very end of the evening. {Photos above}

A great time was had by all. The League members enjoyed meeting new people, socializing and of course purchasing some new jewels!

Here are a few Beauty Tips to keep you relaxed and rejuvenated! Enjoy!

Twinkle Boutique's "Jacqueline" earrings

1) PACKING EARRINGS - To bring a selection of earrings on your trip, get a pre-cut felt square at a fabric store and simply fasten the earrings through the felt then roll it. This allows you to bring lots of earrings, protects each pair from damage and takes up almost no space! Fasten the roll with a rubber band to keep it from unrolling. This could slip easily into a shoe when packing.

2) TRAVEL SIZE SKIN CARE- Oil of Olay Daily Facials cleansing cloths are wonderful! They are dry and you can put as many of these practically weightless squares as you need in a Ziploc bag. They remove makeup, cleanse, and moisturize without taking separate cleansers, makeup removers, washcloths, etc. Just wet one, lather and wash, then throw it away!

3) SUMMER CLOTHING TIP- Pick two complimentary colors for your wardrobe. We like to use the principal of 2 plus 2 plus 5 = 30. Two dresses, two pants, two skirts plus two accessories and five tops. Using these outfits you can mix and match for 30 different looks.

Make sure your wardrobe is comfortable by using soft breathable fabrics and is appropriate for your destination. Look at the garments you own and decide what you will need to add. Purchase the less expensive items like T-shirts and tops and spend your value time making dresses, designer jeans, tunics and jewelry your top priority. Sometimes LESS IS MORE!! A casual tee-shirt, jeans and fun chunky necklace will keep you looking *radiant* and *twinkling*!

If you’re like me the summer months are spent doing fun events like bbq’s, pool parties, beach trips, etc. I don’t want to spend a lot of time on make up especially for the heat to just melt it off of me. I think the best make up tip for the summer season - less is best. Let your natural beauty SHINE!

This week I’m sharing with you,Twinkle friends, my three go-to make up products for the summer:

1. Olay Total Effects Moisturizer Plus Cooling Hydration – this product does it all – diminishes fine lines, fights dullness for healthy looking complexion, gently exfoliates, protects skin from free radical damage, and best of all it leaves my skin feeling super soft and of course fully hydrated. I mix this every morning with spf 30 for added protection against the sun. Retail price $17

2. E.L.F Bronzer & Blush Duo set – this is the perfect bronze and you only have to use it lightly to get a golden shimmer glow. I love the blush as well – it has a peachy-pink undertone with a just a hint of shimmer – I like to mix it with the bronzer for the perfect blend. I admit that I am a bit of a make up snob but sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough…the best thing about this product is the price – only $3!

3. tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Luster - Pouty. I searched high and low for a watermelon pink lip gloss for summer. Finally, sucess with this tarte lip gloss. It was the perfect stand out color I was looking for - PERFECTION! This is fabulous shade and summer is all about color! Retail price $22

It takes me literally less than five minutes to achieve a radiant summer glow using the above products. Everyone’s skin tones are different so you will want to experiment with finding the right shades for you. Heading out to the beach? You might think that all you're going to need is a bikini, a towel, your i-pod, some magazines & a plan to just lie back, relax, and tan, but you're going to need more than that to make your time in the sun and sand a lot better. Since you're going to be exposed to the sun, the heat, and saltwater, you'd better come prepared and protected. Pack these in your bags to be totally beach-ready.

Let's keep this week's Twinkle "Beauty Tip" Sweet & Simple.

• A good sunscreen, because obviously, you're not going to want to end the day looking fried and you definitely don't want to damage your skin.

• A stylish cover-up for the times when you're not going to be in the water. You can also make do with a sarong.

• A hat to protect your hair. Make it fun & fabulous!

• Beachworthy footwear. Flipflops or the infamous "Rainbows": Steer clear of heels because even though they can make you look like a towering sun goddess, they're really not going to do well on the sand.

To kick off our *Twinkle* "Beauty Tip" Thursday with a bang, I'm giving you TWO FOR ONE! I feel these beauty tips are both timely & essential to keep in mind this Memorial Weekend!

Beauty Tip 1: Never Underestimate the Power of Moisturizer

Whether your skin is dry, normal, or even oily, if you can only afford one skin care product, experts say, your dollars will be well spent on a good moisturizer. I believe moisturizing two times daily is helpful in one's daily skin regimen.

If you're in your 20s or 30s, doctors say, moisturizers will give you some of the protection you need to keep skin from prematurely aging.
Often times a good moisturizer can take the place of a lot of products.

Beauty Tip 2: Sunscreen Is Your Best Anti aging Product

Thank you to my wise & beautiful mother for always harping on me to put on sunscreen during my teenage years. Of course all I wanted to do was layout in the sun & become a glorified "sun goddess". It only took me around four to five years to realize that my mom was 100% correct on this tip & her anti-sun comments are permanently embedded in my mind still to this day...Thanks Mom!:)

Before you see the plastic surgeon, before you plunk down half a paycheck on that pricey anti-aging cream, in fact, before you do anything, put on sunscreen. Did you know it's an amazing beauty secret that can keep us from "aging" faster vs. gracefully?

Now, I'm NOT saying to have absolutely zero vitamin D in your system. Doctors say some vitamin D is good for you! I do feel strongly that nice & healthy sun protection & daily SPF will increase your overall look. It will not only make you look good, but you feel fabulous as well!

Fighting Type 1 Diabetes with Fun & Twinkle!

On Tuesday evening Twinkle Boutique held a fundraising party hosted by Billy Shugart in an effort to raise money for The Shaw Project. The Shaw Project is an organization that was formed in 2009 with the goal to raise funds in fun ways to help find a cure for juveniles diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. We're proud to contribute to this organization and huge THANK YOU to Billy for coordinating this event w/ us.

TWINKLE jewels, delicious hors d'oeuvres, and wine makes for a very enjoyable evening! Billy you outdid yourself with all the yummy food - your cheese spread was AMAZING!

TWINKLE FOR A CURE!

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is kicking off their annual Walk MS: Mid-Atlantic Walk event, on May 14th in Kannapolis, NC. Our newest intern, Katrina Kranz, plans on being a part of this event by walking and raising as much money as she can to help create a world free of MS. This is extremely near & dear to her heart.

Growing up with a mother diagnosed with this terrible disease, she realizes how strong every person is who is fighting their daily struggle with MS. It affects not only the people who are diagnosed with it, but also the families who help them every day. “A world free of MS would be amazing,” stated Katrina, “a lot of people are not aware of this terrible disease which slowly breaks down your immune system. It’s really terrible, yet it brings out the strength in everyday people such as my mom.”

Walk MS raises money for MS research projects and client programs (40% for vital national research searching for a cure, and 60% for local programs and services that assist people in this region living with MS). The funds also help to raise awareness about the disease and to educate the public about the FDA-approved drugs now available - medications which may delay or reduce future disability in many people with MS. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, causing symptoms ranging from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. Symptoms vary from person to person and from day to day, bringing uncertainty to those living with the disease.

One person can’t do it all, but we can all do our own little part to help find a cure. If you are interested in walking in the event, or making a small donation please contact Katrina and she will be happy to give you more information! Every event held is helping to get us closer to the day when no one has to hear the words, "you have MS."

*We are also planning on having a Twinkle Party soon, with a part of the proceeds going to this foundation. We will keep everyone updated on this when we set a date and place!*

Pro-Cheerleaders Getting their Twinkle On!

To follow up with our last blog, on March 4th our newest intern, Katrina Kranz, attended her first event at the Sunset Club for H.Y.P.E Inc and the professional cheerleaders that donated their time to mingle and see their professional- shot picture, featuring Twinkle jewelry, get auctioned off.

Fun was had by all in the stylish club, which is located at 1820 South Boulevard in Charlotte, NC. Twinkle had many of the cheerleaders and attendees dazzled by our jewelry. Surprisingly, an equal number of men who attended the event visited our table to look for gifts for their wives and girlfriends. They sure know what women like – a little twinkle!

All-in-all the event was quite a success and a great way for Twinkle to give back to the community in which we call “home.”

We're H.Y.P.E Are YOU?

On February 6th, Twinkle Boutique had the pleasure of working with H.Y.P.E. Inc., a Charlotte non-profit organization at a photo shoot for their upcoming fundraiser.

HYPE focuses on enriching the lives of inner city youth through athletic and academic education. They currently offer year-round programs for youth ages 6-18 in gymnastics, tennis, track and field, golf, and dance. Check out their website: http://www.imhype.org/

On March 4th at The Sunset Club, H.Y.P.E. is holding a Pro-Cheerleader Day Party. Over 20 Current and Former Professional cheerleader from the Washington Redskins and Charlotte Bobcats will be in attendance. They will auction off a photograph of some of the cheerleaders wearing Twinkle Boutique jewelry. All proceeds go to benefit H.Y.P.E.

New American Idol Panel of Judges... Awesome New Vibe for the Hit Show!

American Idol- Ramblings by Lauren Fox

I don’t know about you guys. But I LOVE this season of American Idol! I thought that since Simon left, the show was sure to be cancelled. The judges have such a great chemistry. Steven Tyler is hilarious! His random comments always crack me up! He is a lot “softer” than I thought he would be. My 6-year-old sister asked me last night, “Is that a boy or a girl with the crazy hair on the end?”

The Twinkle ladies are big Jennifer Lopez fans as well. I especially like that she is always flashing some bling! What is not to love about that? J-lo definitely fits the *Twinkle* girl mold: "a little twinkle to sparkle wherever you go!"

Wednesday night’s auditions were in Austin, Texas. Here are some of my favorites:

Casey Abrams sang “I Don’t Need No Doctor” by Ray Charles. I think he will definitely go far this season! His voice was so soulful! I can’t wait to see what he will do with more conventional pop songs!

Corey Levoy was the guy with the “J Lo Booty”. He sang “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt. He and his sister (who was at the audition) didn’t meet until they were in their teens! It was so obvious how much they loved each other and how bad she wanted him to get that “golden ticket”. A “loving sibling” always draws a tear for me, so I hope he goes really far in the competition.

Jacqueline Dunford and Nick Fink were the couple that came into the audition room together. I have a feeling that they actually weren’t a couple, but just pretended to be one to get TV time. But who am I to say? Regardless, they both had great voices! Jacqueline sang “Mercy” by Duffy, which is one of my favorite songs! And Nick sang “Sunday Morning” by Maroon 5, another favorite. I don’t think they’ll make it to the end, but they are both very talented!

John Wayne Schultz was the cute cowboy (no, really... he’s a cowboy) who sang “Believe” by Brooks and Dunn! I loved his voice and how he was there for his mom that was diagnosed with breast cancer! I hope he does well in the competition because I wouldn’t mind looking at him every week! Cuteeeee!!!!

Auditions this season have been very interesting and the competition will definitely be tough! I can’t wait to see who wins because there have been so many incredibly talented people audition! We’ll see if someone can take Kelly Clarkson’s spot as my favorite American Idol!

The 2011 award season started with a bang on Sunday with the 68th Golden Globe Awards. The red carpet was filled with Hollywood Stars wearing fabulous gowns and carrying exquisite handbags and designers shoes. The famous question of the night, asked by the like of Ryan Seacrest, Giuliana Rancic, & Billy Bush, “Who are you wearing?”. While the gowns are what everyone looks forward to on the red carpet, an Oscar-worthy gown isn’t nearly as glamorous without all the right accessories! I’m always left wondering, “what about the jewelry?”

My top jewelry picks for the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards are:

TWINKLE News: Introducing Winnie Kaspar Designs!

TB: You are very creative. When /How did your creative knack start?
Winnie: I was exposed to handmade things my whole life. My mother used to sew and I took three years of home economics in high school and it just sparked from there.

TB: You are a mother of nine! Did you used to make homemade things for them when they were growing up? Do you make jewelry for them now?

Winnie: I used to make a lot of their clothing. I have four daughters and five sons. When they were little, I would love to make little dresses and pant suits. For my daughters I made anything frilly, with lace or netting, pastel colors and of course pink! I currently make jewelry for my daughters and myself. I recently took up crochet and I enjoy making winter scarves.

TB: What inspires you to pick out the beading for your jewelry?

Winnie: I like anything bright and that twinkles! I’m into anything shiny and crystals. Something eye catching but still on the feminine side.

One of the best things about our business is that we do lots and lots of parties!! It's pretty fantastic to hang out and meet fabulous girls and dish about our latest jewelry and accessories. Who doesn't enjoy time w/ your girlfriends and finding the perfect pair of earrings at way AFFORDABLE prices! It's a fun time for all...and we look forward to this spring as our calendar is filling up w/ more great parties and events. We love to bring the twinkle to you and your friends!

Getting to know Wendy...Twinkle Boutique interviews Wendy below:

TB: Can you share with our Twinkle friends a little about yourself...your background...your interests?

WJ: I have always been somewhat of a creative and free spirited soul. As a child, I grew up in a small southern town and used my imagination and creativity to entertain myself and older sister. I enjoyed making paper dolls, sketching, painting, and designing costumes. I followed my interests as I grew older and obtained a degree in Clothing & Textiles from Appalachian State University. I explored various careers in the fashion industry after graduating college, but always knew that my true passion was for design.

After leaving the work force to start a family, I began considering various ways to further use my talents. For many ladies, handbags or shoes have long been an essential part of their wardrobe. Belts have always been my accessory of choice. They can dress up a favorite pair of jeans or serve as the finishing touch on an evening gown. They are quite simply fabulous! I began designing and making ladies belts in 2009. It has been a fun, exciting and rewarding experience. I am filled with gratitude for the encouragement from my family, friends, and clients. Their support has helped make my dreams a reality.

TB:What is your inspiration behind designing the belts?

WJ:I am continually inspired by southern heritage. I have a flair for classic patterns, such as toile and houndstooth. I love to enhance the belts with a twist of color or personalization. I enjoy combining traditional design with fun and surprising elements. I strive to make each belt unique with a classic preppy style in mnd.

My love for Jewelry was definitely inspired there…I absolutely loved finding the perfect piece of jewelry for my customers. My second love is Real Estate. I am currently a Realtor in the greater Charlotte area with My Townhome Realty/ Maison Properties. I truely enjoy finding my clients the perfect home and helping with every detail of the process. I am an entrepreneur at heart and have a passion for design and fashion! My favorite fashion items are hand bags, gold jewelry and everything that sparkles. My hobbies include cooking, entertaining, playing tennis and volunteering. I am thrilled to be co-owner of Twinkle Boutique!

Tosha Janz: I am a single mom of two wonderful boys, 8 and 6. Keeping up with boys can often be an all-consuming rough and dirty venture which is why I am so excited to be part owner of Twinkle. I love being a part of the creative process of selecting just the right peices. My personal style is collective of vintage, sweet and feminine mixed with unique and original. Twinkle is a collaborative effort which I believe makes the shine so much more illuminating.
